As with the white stuff there are more than one red marker. They are of different shades.
Rough Red:
Given this nick name because of it's rough appearance, like the white quartz, this coating has shown up on various types of rock. It does not appear to be any form of weathering and the its spotty pattern on rock would seems to preclude weathering. Yet to tested.
